The FIM SBK season opener comes to Australia here at Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit at Cowesin Victoria ,there’s a few new/old faces lining up on the grid.In Race 1 of the SBK when the flag dropped it was Tom Sykes who got the drop and put the Kawasaki in front of the Ducati's but as the race went on Marco Melandri riding the Ducati rode on to take the lead with Chas Davies riding in third place ,after the 22 laps it was Marco Melandri who took the flag by just over 1 sec from Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes ,with Chas Davies just over 9 sec’s behind.On Sunday in Race 2 the riders again lined up and the Kawasaki riders Johnny Rea and Tom Sykes took off down the straight with Ducati riders Marco Melandri and Xavi Forbes in hot pursiut ,as the race went on Rea and Melandri were out in front swapping it for 1st place but on the last lap Marco Melandri had his Ducati hanging off the back of Johnny Rea’s bike and came out and around the Kawasaki and went on to take the flag by a wheel (0.021 sec) coming in third was Xavi Forbes who was just .301 sec’s behind .The podiums were just .301 sec from 1st to 3rd ,pretty good racing after 22 lapa around Phillip Island.
The Supersport riders came out and lined up and it was the Yamaha’s of Lucas Mahias and teamate Federico Caricasulo that headed off after a great start ,but then after entering the 3rd lap the race was Red flagged by the officials due to an accident involving a few racers.The race was then restarted to 9 a lap dash and again Lucas Mahias on his Yamaha R6 got into a duell with Randy Krummenacher also riding a Yamaha R6 but as the 9 laps went it was Lucas Mahias that took the top step of the podium with Randy Krummenacher getting second ,coming in third was Sandro Cortese on another Yamaha R6.
