The first race of the season was the Collie TT which was run at Collie Motorplex where after 2 days of rain the weather broke for the Sunday racing and the 92 riders competed in 24 Race events..
First up on the grid in Race 1 were Period 2 + Period 3 where Gary Tenardi on the Ariel got away well for the period 2's ,where Marco Vittino in the period 3's rode well but couldn't match the Ariel which was just over 3 sec's ahead, with Shaun Oliver snr coming in to take 3 rd .In Race 2 of the Period 2 + 3's it was again Gary Tenardi who rode on to take the flag by just over a ½ sec from Marco Vittino with Shaun Oliver snr picking up the last step on the podium .Race 3 of the period 2 + 3 's lined up and Gary Tenardi riding his Ariel got away again to go on and take first spot on the podium beating Marco Vittino by just over 6.5 secs ,with Shaun Oliver snr picking up 3 rd spot.
Next up were the Period 4 500/750 Unlimited ,Period 5 Senior ,Period 6 750 ,in Race 1 the lights went and it was Leigh Boujos riding his 750 Kawasaki who was closely followed by Neville McIntyre on his Honda ,but it was Leigh Boujos who just powered on to take the flag by just over 16 sec's with Neville McIntyre claiming second while Michael McGowan riding his Honda rode in to take 3 rd spot .In Race 2 they lined up and the flag dropped it was the 750 Kawasaki of Leigh Boujos who left the rest of the grid after turn 1 ,then after the 5 laps Leigh Boujos took the flag by just over 25 sec's from the Honda of Neville McIntyre who was 11.5 sec's clear of 3 rd place getter Michael McGowan .In Race 3 they lined up and when the lights went out it was the Kawasaki of Leigh Boujos who came out of turn 1 ahead of the Honda of Neville McIntyre and the 500 Honda of Bob Hull ,but after the 5 laps it was again Leigh Boujos who made a clean sweep and claimed his 3 top spot on the podium ,Neville McIntyre came in just over 20.5 sec's behind the Kawasaki with 500 Honda of Bob Hull going over the line to get 3 rd place.
Next out were the Sidecars with 6 outfits in the field ,the flag dropped and it was the Suzuki # 105 machine of Mark Ackerman's / Dave Mercer that took off towards turn 1 and Mark Ackermans just put the power on and kept on going ,then the Honda of Des Harvey/Gary Cush caught up and took the lead from the Suzuki then going on to take the flag with the # 105 Suzuki of Ackermans/Mercer taking 2 nd spot ,rounding out the podium was the Honda of K.Webb/Martyn Dunbar-Stuart . Race 2 the sidecars lined up and it was the big Suzuki of Mark Ackermans /Davey Mercer that again took off toward turn 1 at the head of the pack with the Honda of Des Harvey/Gary Cush in hot pursuit ,but after the 5 laps it was the Suzuki of Ackermans that took the flag by just over 1 sec ,with the Honda of Des Harvey grabbing spot ,third spot on the podium going to Webby/Martyn .In Race 3 it was the # 105 Suzuki of Ackermans /Mercer that took off and went thru' turn to take the lead but again the Honda of Harvey/Dunbar-Stuart powered thru' the field to go on and take the flag by .5 of a sec from the Suzuki of Ackermans/Mercer ,and again a consistent effort by the Honda of Webby/Dunbar-Stuart to come in and claim the 3 rd spot on the podium
The 125 GP,250/350 Production class were up next ,the lights went out and it was the 125 Honda RS'S of Adam Haines and Shaun Oliver jnr that took off towards turn 1 ,but coming out the other side it the # 96 Honda of Shaun Oliver jnr that took down the track and just kept on going to take the flag from Adam Haines by just over 8 secs ,coming in third was Dean Taylor on a Kawasaki Ninja 300 who was around 6.5 secs behind young Adam Haines .Race 2 lined up and the Honda RS's of Adam Haines ,David Manson and Shaun Oliver jnr took off down the track ,went thru' turn 1 ,but before the lap was completed it was David Manson who had his Honda wound up and went on to take the flag by 5 secs with Shaun Oliver jnr picking up 2 nd ,Adam Haines on the Honda RS claiming 3 place on the podium . In Race 3 the flag dropped and it was the Hondas of David Manson, Shaun Oliver jnr and David Doherty that took off down the straight but after the 5 laps it was the # 86 Honda of David Doherty that lasted the distance to take out 1st place with David Manson coming in .4 of a sec behind Doherty to claim 2 nd and Shaun Oliver jnr claiming 3 rd.
The Period 3 350 ,Period 5 750 unlimited ,Pre Modern class were next out on the grid ,when the lights went out it was the P5 unlimited # 105 Suzuki of Mark Ackerman's that blasted out of the blocks and thru' turn 1 then gradually pulled away from the 750 Gixer of Dave Haines and the 1100 Suzuki of Jeff Hord ,at the end of the 5 laps it was Ackermans Suzuki that claimed top spot on the podium ,with # 54 Dave Haines 4 secs behind and 4.5 secs ahead of the # 136 Suzuki of Jeff Hord to claim 2 nd with Hord picking up the remaining spot on the podium. In Race 2 they lined up and the lights went out and coming out of turn 1 it was Mark Ackernans P5 unlimited Suzuki that was pointed towards the flag as he just powered on to take the flag ,with Dave Haines 750 doing a great job to come in around 8 secs behind ,picking up the remaining podium was the # 24 Kawasaki of Neil Howard.Race 3 got under way and it was a mad scramble for the first corner with Ackermans ,Haines ,Hord and Howard fighting for position ,but as the race went on it was the big P5 unlimited of Mark Ackermans that took the lead and went on to take the flag making a clean sweep for the class for the 3 races to take top spot ,Dave Haines again wrung the neck of the 750 to beat the 1100 of Jeff Hord to 2 nd spot on the podium ,with Hord picking up 3 rd.
Juniors 12 under 16 years.There were 5 Juniors that lined up in the Collie TT round, when the light went out it was the Honda's of Bronsan Pickett, Adam Haines and Callum O'Brien that charged into the first corner with Bronsan Pickett coming out in front, but after the 5 laps it was the Honda of # 31 Pickett that finished 4.5 secs ahead of # 21 Adam Haines with # 10 Callum O'Brien coming in around 4 secs behind Adam Haines. In Race 2 it was again the trio of Pickett ,O'Brien and Haines that headed into the first corner with Callum O'Brien coming out being hotly pursued by Bronson Pickett just ahead of Adam Haines ,but towards the end of the 5 laps it was the CBR of O'Brien that took the flag, with Bronson Pickett taking 2 nd and Adam Haines claiming 3 rd .Race 3 came along and it was the Hondas of Bronson Pickett and Adam Haines that took off and went thru' turn 1 with Pickett putting the power on to build his on his lead and go on to take the flag with around 9 secs ahead of Adam Haines who got 2 nd with 3 rd going to the Honda of Scott Topping.
Period 4 350, Period 5 250, Period 6 125/Production 250/500 There were 22 riders in this class ,when the lights went out it was a scrabble thru' turn 1 ,but coming out in front was Tony Hynes in his Suzuki RGV 250 being hotly pursued by Marc Cartier on another RGV and Lloyd Pearce on a Kawasaki 400 ,but as the laps counted down it was Tony Hynes who rode his RGV to victory by some 7.5 secs with Marc Cartier picking up 2 nd spot ,Lloyd Pearce riding his Kawasaki coming in 3 rd.In Race 2 they lined up for another keenly contested 5 lapper ,the flag dropped and it was again the Suzuki trio of Tony Hynes ,Marc Cartier and Matt Powell that got to the first turn ,but coming out again you can't beat experience and it was Tony Hynes who put the hammer down and speed away from the group ,he went to claim the top spot on the podium with around 3.5 secs to spare ,coming in 2 nd was fellow Suzuki rider Matt Powell ,Marc Cartier came in to claim the 3 rd spot on the podium .Race 3 lined up and it was again a scramble for the first turn but after a well run race with positions constantly changing it was Suzuki rider Matt Powell who bought home the bacon with just over a ½ sec lead from veteran Suzuki rider Tony Hynes , Marc Cartier raced a great race to come in 3 rd.
Moderns and Thunderbikes were next out to line up for Race 1,when the lights went out it was Steve Crane riding his Honda 1000 that was the first to come out of turn 1 being pursued by 600 cc Yamaha riders Daniel Wilson and Chris Kirkby ,after a few duals within the race it was Steve Crane that pushed his Honda to claim the flag with a 7 sec gap to 2 nd place getter Daniel Wilson ,coming in 3 rd was Chris Kirkby on his Yammy .Race 2 came along and it was Daniel Wilson who made a strong move to take turn 1 but it was Steve Crane who was staying right on the wheel of Daniel Wilson ,but after the 5 laps it Steve Crane who put his Honda across the line first with Daniel Wilson riding the 600 into 2 nd place ,with Tony Hynes claiming third spot on the podium .Race 3 came along and it was again the trio of Daniel Wilson ,Steve Crane and Chris Kirby doing battle up the pointy end ,but as the race wore on it was Daniel Wilson who got Steve Crane's measure and claimed the top spot by around 1.5 sec's ,Steve getting 2 nd and a further 11.5 sec's back getting 3 rd was Chris Kirkby .
In today's racing there were riders of all standards and within a race there were another 2-3 races happening within that race, thanks to all the Officials and Flaggies
